Avett At The Fox

So I had been waiting for this Avett Brothers show for a long time. I had gotten, by some divine intervention, front row seats at The Fox theater in Atlanta. I absolutely love the Fox and could not have been happier. Cut to the day of the show....1. morning after New Year's Eve-enough said...2. coldest day so far this year (I think.) We rally, start the festivities, and head to the show. When we get there we realize that the actual orchestra pit was filled in with seats....not our front row seats, but someone else's. Needless to say, our seats were still really good and we had a pretty good view through the 3 rows of people in front of us. We watch a few songs of Langhorne Slim's which was very entertaining..his banjo player is ridiculous....and then head to get refills before Avett starts. The moment of truth comes and the lights flicker on and off. We head to our seats and await the awesomeness. They open with 'Colorshow'...I'm thinking, okay good way to start, I like where this is headed....'Head Full of Doubt' was next....I'm thinking a little to early for this one, but go ahead...... (We had these guys sitting behind us that were literally screaming every lyric, while the girl on the left was thinking she was Jewel, and the people on the right looked like they were forced to go.) The setlist was inevitably less than outstanding. I think new fans probably enjoyed it, but for those of us who have been around a while, it just didn't hack it. The order was off, the song choice was off, and it was pretty much the same set from the night before. I was disappointed because they have so many amazing songs to choose from and I feel like they play the same ones over and over.....basically I feel like I've seen that show before. So, overall I was just not wowed....as I usually am. Scott seemed to be "off" also, but Seth was stellar as always. The night ended with drunken banter from some douche leaving the show....annoying, but entertaining and made me realize that the old days of awesome Avett shows with actual cool people are over.......Sucess: such sweet sorrow.
Here's the opener 'Colorshow' and the encore 'Laundry Room' and 'Talk on Indolence'

Polished Dimes

Here's a little clip from the brother's on how they came to play their music. If you haven't picked up the new album 'I & Love & You'...go and get it now! It is absolutely phenomenal.

I and Love and You

The Avett Brother's are streaming their new album 'I&Love&You' on NPR before it releases on September 29th. You can listen here.......amazing album. They are also releasing 'chapters' of their new album on their website. Each video focuses on a different song off the album....with their thoughts, as well as fans thoughts.

Ice Cream Man + Avetts

So I think this guy goes around to different festivals and shows giving away free ice cream to the folks who are behind the scenes....he has a lot of videos on Babelgum.
The Avett Brothers did an acoustic performance of 'I and Love and You' at Newport Folk Fest. I actually really like the acoustic version....maybe better than the album version?.?.?.....You can hear their full set here.

Avett's Given Props by Rolling Stone

The Avett Brothers were named "2009 Artist to Watch" by Rolling Stone. They are getting a lot of promotion for the new album and particularly the title track "I and Love and You." (Great song no doubt, and you can listen to it on the page, but they have been playing it for a least a year now.)....I'm just excited to hear the new, new stuff.
The tag line is "North Carolina duo are Rick Rubin's favorite new band." There's a video by Crackerfarm at the end. Crackerfarm is the shit.

Avett Brothers: Newport Folk Festival Set

Great set by Avett at Newport. The sound quality isn't great, but the set list is. If you have never had the pleasure of hearing The Avett Brothers, check out their site. You will not regret it.
This set includes a newbie (not yet recorded) "Down with the Shine" and "The Perfect Space" off their upcoming record set to release in September.
